I travelled on the Queen in November 1992 so if Mr. Scanlan hadn’t been an undercover cop there might have been no ship on which to make the trip. We had a fun trip; with the ship about half full there was plenty of room even though the cabin was tight for four including our daughter who was nearly two at the time. The crew had a less jolly time because they were told in TI that they would be laid-off when we arrived in Cairns; there was a near mutiny. Promises must have been made because they came aboard and served us well on the voyage south.

The latest Google map photos show that the Queen has been demolished to the water-line so she is effectively no more.

I was on the Queen of Isles with about 10 other girls in 1992 going from Cairns to Thursday Island.
I had the most fantastic time. One thing i remember is a whale coming up not too far from the fishing boat what an amazing sight. Caught some nice size Travally ... had a go at snorkeling and was drinking bowl sized cocktails .

Hi, Today I was having a sort out and came upon my old badge collection .
I found my enamel badge of the Queen of the Isles. It is actually in the shape of the ship .
I travelled on it with my sister and parents back in around 1967 or 68 she was 2 or 3 years old by then. I was about 4 or 5 at the time (pre school ) so can't remember too ,much. The holiday was in Llandudno (North Wales) so we embarked somewhere around that area . I then wondered whether she was still running and found your web site .I'm so glad to see shes OK . Oh my, what a wonderful site! I'm thrilled to see that an entire site is dedicated to one of the ferries serving the Isles of Scilly, written with so much affection and detail. Great! It remains to hope that a similar site will once be there to honour the wonderful, pretty and truly amazing Scillonian III (maybe a project for me in the future?). Thank you ever so much for creating this tribute to the Queen of the Isles, I will come back!

Thanks Hoppy for putting me onto the site - it´s truely great and brings back so many wonderful memories from our adventures up and down the reef in 1990 - 1991. This was cruising at it´s very best. The punters and crew had the best time imaginable and the good old QOTI´s kept us safe (apart from the odd grounding and the bomb trip) and dry (in the non-alcoholic sense) most of the time.
I had a lot more fun then than I do now driving super rich wankers around the Med on plastic yachts!

Hi there, my Father; Capt James Stott, in retirement worked for the Pacific Navigation Company and was the Captain of the Queen for it's voyage from Penzance to Tonga. I often wondered what happened to her as all I knew that she had left Tonga. thanks for the great web page on the history. I would like to say I have some pictures, but they might take some finding. Travelled on the Queen of the Isles in the mid to late 60s with my Dad and Brother from St Ives to Scilly and it was the first time I had been sea sick! The Queen came in on the spring tide when the harbour was deep enough for its draft and moored alongside Smeatons Pier. Have some pics somewhere which I will dig out for the site. Great site.

A great ship. Sailed on her a couple of times when she was new. Lovely trip from Penzance to St Ives and back.

A shame to see the state that she is in now.
